faithfulness to What?

When books are translated into a different language a translator will face many problems in doing this. The translator has to tank in effect the slang language for that particular language and also abbreveations for words. Different languages in the world have different slang language and different short term words for example has'nt is a short term word for has not, and other languages do not use short term language a'lot they use the whole word. In the book of the great gatsby i think that the movie did a better job at showing the first big party at gatsbys house than the book did at showing the party. I say this because the book didn't describe the electric atmosphere that the movie did show and the book also did not show the whole party as a whole while the movie did. Overall i think that the movie is better than the book.

  1. I have no real idea what you are talking about? I'm a little confused. No, I think I'm a lot confused. Translation, in this instance, isn't translating the language from English to Spanish for example, but from book to film. When you translate like this, what elements do you have to keep to stay "faithful" to the book and what elements can you disregard?
